Kon Tiki trip re-created

OSLO, Norway (AP) - All his life, Olav Heyerdahl heard about the amazing voyages his famous grandfather, Thor Heyerdahl, made aboard his primitive balsa wood raft Kon-Tiki.

Now he knows what it was like.

Almost 60 years after Thor Heyerdahl’s 1947 Kon-Tiki voyage, the younger Heyerdahl on Monday recounted his own adventure tracing his grandfather’s wake across the Pacific.

Tiki bar to survive??

The plan to acquire the properties through eminent domain is being replaced with a plan to approach property owners with offers to buy the properties, and if the owners don’t want to sell, eminent domain will be withdrawn.

Jim Finegan, owner of the Tiki Bar, said despite living a nightmare not knowing if the business he’s worked hard to establish over the past 17 years would be taken from him, he’s happy with the supervisors’ decision.

Trader Joe’s tiki style hits NY NY

The 12,600-square-foot market and accompanying 2,787-square-foot wine store are housed on the ground floor of a New York University dormitory, ensuring steady business from the college crowd.

The store features Trader Joe’s trademark tiki-style decor, Hawaiian-shirt-clad employees and shelves primarily stocked with private-label goods. But in a concession to time-pressed New Yorkers, it’s the only Trader Joe’s offering home delivery.
